NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has partnered with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore for an on-campus collection drive this holiday season.
 
The drive will collect nonperishable food items, socks, gloves, and scarves from Nov. 15 to December 18. Collections sites will be located at Gill Gymnasium and Echols Hall, with Norfolk State fans encouraged to make donations at home basketball games at the front entry table.
 
 "Our students are finding ways to give back to our local community," Assistant AD for Academics and Student Services and SAAC Adviser Christina Ruffin said. "Every other Friday, you can find a group of student-athletes at the Jordan Newby Foodbank stocking the pantries. They have decided to invite the NSU community to participate with them in our holiday drive."
 
The Norfolk State women's basketball team gets its home slate underway on Thursday at 11 a.m., facing Appalachian State for Education Day at Echols Hall.
