Spartans Land Six on All-MEAC Teams

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State football team landed six players on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) postseason all-conference teams, released on Tuesday afternoon.

All six Spartans were named to the All-MEAC Second Team:  Wide receiver Andre Pegues, defensive backs Devon Allen and R.J. Coles, linebackers AJ Richardson and Daylan Long, and defensive lineman Keshawn Lynch.

All awards and honors were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.

Pegues, a graduate student from Raeford, N.C., led the Spartans' receiving corps with 24 receptions for 474 yards and two touchdowns. He became the first NSU wideout this year to record a 100-yard receiving game, achieving the feat at Delaware State in a 44-21 victory.

Allen, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va. led the MEAC with 10 pass breakups despite playing in just seven games. He recorded six tackles and forced a fumble in the Spartans' season-opener against Virginia State and was consistently one of Pro Football Network's (PFF) highest rated FCS defensive backs prior to his season-ending injury at Howard.

Coles, a redshirt junior from Richmond, Va., registered the second-most tackles (57.0) on the team, making 37 solo stops He recorded 4.0 tackles for loss for 16 yards, tallying nine tackles and three tackles for loss (including a sack) against Morgan State.

Richardson, a true freshman from Kings Mountain, N.C., took the conference by storm in his debut season. The linebacker led Norfolk State with 69.0 total tackles, including 41 solo tackles and 11.0 tackles for loss. He was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16 and MEAC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 20.

Long, a redshirt sophomore from Cincinatti, Ohio, tallied 41.0 tackles, including 27 solo tackles, in 10 appearances this season. He led the Spartans with 3.0 sacks for 26 yards, recording 8.0 total tackles for loss. Long recorded a two-sack game against Morgan State, forcing a fumble as well.

Lynch, a redshirt sophomore from Newport News, Va., anchored the Norfolk State defensive line with 41.0 tackles in 11 games, including 18 solo stops. The ODU transfer helped the Spartans earn a 31-23 Battle of the Bay victory at Hampton, recording four tackles and forcing one fumble.

The conference's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year recipients will be announced during the National Football Hall of Fame festivities as part of the 65th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Aria Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.
