Spartans Announce 2024 Baseball Schedule

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State head baseball coach Keith Shumate announced the team's 2024 schedule on Thursday afternoon, featuring 33 home games at Marty L. Miller Field.

The 2024 campaign will mark Norfolk State baseball's second year in the Northeast Conference (NEC), joining the organization before the 2023 season. The NEC added Le Moyne College this offseason, bringing the conference's total to 12 teams.

"We are very excited about the 2024 schedule," Shumate said. "The tough nonconference schedule will go a long way to prepare us for the tough NEC slate of conference games. All weekends will be challenging. The team is looking forward to intense competition."

NSU opens the 2024 season with a three-game homestand against Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 16-18), a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). It will mark the first meeting between the Spartans and Mountaineers since 2010.

Norfolk State hosts Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on Feb. 20 at 3 p.m., staying at Marty L. Miller Field for three home games against Manhattan College (Feb. 23-25). The series will close out seven consecutive home games for the Spartans to begin the 2024 campaign.

The Spartans head to Williamsburg on Feb. 27 for their first road test, a standalone matchup at William & Mary.  After battling the Tribe, NSU hosts its last nonconference weekend series with three showdowns against Saint Peter's (Mar. 1-3).

Norfolk State opens NEC play at home against Central Connecticut State (Mar. 8-10), the conference's regular-season champion last year. The Spartans then face VMI (Mar. 12) for the pair's second matchup of the season, taking place in Lexington, Va. this time around.

The Spartans hit the road for a NEC weekend series with former MEAC foe Maryland Eastern Shore (Mar. 15-17), before hosting back-to-back nonconference games against UMass (Mar. 19) and William & Mary (Mar. 20).

Norfolk State plays four consecutive games away from home next, starting with a weekend series at LIU (Mar. 22-24). The Spartans return to their home state a few days later, but for another road matchup at Longwood (Mar. 28).

The Spartans return to Norfolk for three matchups with Delaware State (Mar. 28-30), before hosting VMI (Apr. 2) for the third and final showdown of the season between the in-state foes.

NSU travels to the Big Apple for a road series against last year's NEC runner-up, Wagner, from Apr. 5-7, returning home for a rematch against Longwood (Apr. 9). The Spartans host Coppin State (Apr. 12-14) before a third matchup with Longwood (Apr. 17), wrapping up the home stretch with a weekend series against Merrimack (Apr. 19-21).

The Spartans head to the state's capital for one last in-state matchup with Richmond. Sacred Heart hosts NSU (Apr. 26-28) to close out the month, and the Spartans open May with a home series against Farleigh Dickenson (May 5-7).

Norfolk State's last nonconference test will come against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) competition, facing NC State on the road on May 7. The Spartans head to Stonehill May 10-12, after sweeping the Skyhawks during the 2023 season.

Norfolk State closes out the regular season at home against Le Moyne College (May 16-18). The 2024 NEC Championships will begin on May 22, with the tournament site to be announced at a later date.
