NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State put on a dominant performance in its home opener against Virginia Wesleyan, defeating the Marlins 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans performed well during doubles play, setting the tone for the match.
Federico Rebecchini and
Boris Lunin won 6-1 against Felix Bevc and Alen Curoic on Court 1, before
Hugo Massoni Lena and
Adam Kaczmarek defeated Hubert Pawara and Sai Challangudla 6-2 on Court 2.

Ibrahim Abbas and
Roosevelt Brown III nearly pulled off the sweep, falling 7-5 in a back-and-forth match against Jonas Juetz and Francis Cabbaddu, but the doubles point had been clinched by the Spartans.

Rebecchini earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bevc at the top singles slot, before Kaczmarek took down Pawara 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 position.

Boris Lunin comfortably defeated Juetz 6-1, 6-1 on Court 4, while Abbas finished strong in a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Andrea Combos on Court 5.

Stefan Zrnic bested Roosevelt Brown at the No. 6 slot to put VWU on the board, before
Hugo Massoni Lena earned a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 4 to close out the afternoon.

The Spartans return to action on Friday, traveling to Williamsburg for a matchup with William & Mary on Friday.
