BALTIMORE, Md. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped to 1-5 on the season Sunday with a 5-2 loss at Loyola University of Maryland.

The Spartans picked up a pair of singles victories, as
Hugo Massoni Lena and
Boris Lunin won at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Â

Massoni Lena and
Ibrahim Abbas fought valiantly at No. 2 doubles, falling 7-5 to Oliver Davey and Ryan Boland. Matt Cardano and George Cavo defeated Lunin and
Federico Rebecchini 6-1 at the top position, while the Greyhounds took No. 3 doubles by default.

Loyola won No. 6 singles by default, while Dylan Koziol took down Abbas 6-2, 6-2 at the fifth slot. Nick Lawliss defeated
Roosevelt Brown III 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 position.

Massoni Lena wasted no time picking up his second singles victory of the weekend, cruising past Cavo 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 slot.

Rebecchini came back to force a third set in the top singles match, but couldn't pull off the marathon victory. Cardano narrowly took the final set of action, coming away with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory.

Lunin's match wrapped up last, a back-and-forth battle at the No. 3 position against Davey. The Norfolk State newcomer ultimately prevailed 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).

 Norfolk State returns to its home court on Friday, facing Virginia State at 4 p.m. at NSU Tennis Complex.
