NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State graduate forward
Kris Bankston tallied not one, but two MEAC accolades in a single day, earning MEAC Co-Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday afternoon.
The recognition comes after a dominant weekend for the Little Rock, Ark. Native, averaging 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks across two games.
Bankston scored a career-high 29 points in Monday's 76-75 overtime loss at North Carolina Central, leading a second half comeback that erased a 29-point deficit. He added 12 rebounds to complete the double-double, while blocking three shots.
In NSU's win at South Carolina State on Saturday, Bankston recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
The recognition marked Bankston's second career MEAC Player of the Week nod, first of the 2022-23 campaign. It added to his terrific defensive resume, as his fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
