NORFOLK, Va. | The Norfolk State University baseball team concluded its Northeast Conference (NEC) series on Sunday with a 15-1 loss to Sacred Heart at Marty L. Miller Baseball Field.
Antonio Velasquez (0-4) took the loss as he surrendered four runs (two earned) on three hits, with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Dalton Barham, Nathan Manzer, Mac Yarbrough and Joe Lafave saw action on the mound.
Jack Kramer (1-2) picked up the win, pitching six innings, scattering four hits and fanning six. Charlie Costello, Michael Attonito and Tyler Briggs worked in relief.
Sacred Heart (6-7 overall, 2-1 NEC) plated two runs on two hits in the top of the first inning to grab a quick 2-0 lead and the Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the third for a 4-0 advantage.
SHU added a run in the fifth, four more in the sixth and five in the seventh to extend the lead to 14-0.
Norfolk State (3-11, 1-2) got a run back in the seventh.
With one down, Nathan Ade singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Malcolm Perry reached on an infield hit and scored on an error.
The Pioneers picked up a run in the ninth for the 15-1 victory.
The Spartans finished with eight hits, led at the plate by Ralphael Rodriguez and Justin Journette, both going 2-for-4.
Sacred Heart recorded 18 hits, as Ryan Donnelly led the way by going 4-for-6, with two RBI and one run scored.

Norfolk State returns to action with a mid-week game as the Spartans visit William & Mary on Tuesday. First pitch against the Tribe is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Pulmeri Park.
