Abbas Secures Singles Victory as Spartans Fall 6-1 to Morgan State

CARY, N.C. – Ibrahim Abbas earned Norfolk State's lone point of the day on Saturday, as the the NSU men's tennis team lost 6-1 to Morgan State to close out the MEAC Tennis Roundup.
 
Abbas defeated Martial Kawunda 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 6 position, marking his second singles victory of the weekend.
 
The Bears took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, starting with Rhazjzon Rankins and Niles Rachal's 6-1 win over Abbas and Sadiq Hinton at the latter position. Bertin Karenzi and Mikeal Carpenter took down Boris Lunin and Hugo Massoni Lena 6-3 soon after. On Court 1, Federico Rebecchini and Adam Kaczmarek led Sabastian Lopez and Makkijha Brown 5-4 when Morgan State clinched the doubles point.
 
Carpenter defeated Rebecchini 6-2, 6-2 at the top of the singles lineup, after Morgan State earned a straight-set victory at the No. 5 slot. Karenz took down Lunin 6-3, 6-2 on Court 4 and Rankins bested Massoni Lena 6-1, 6-2 on Court 3.
 
After dropping the first set to Lopez 6-2, Kaczmarek battled back to win the second by the same score at No. 2 singles. The pair went back-and-forth in a grueling third set, but the Morgan State graduate senior came out on top 7-6.
 
Norfolk State remains in North Carolina for a meeting with N.C. A&T on Sunday at 12 p.m.
