GREENSBORO, N.C. – Federico Rebecchini notched Norfolk State's lone point of the afternoon on Sunday, as the Spartans fell 6-1 to the undefeated Aggies of North Carolina A&T.
Â
The singles victory win capped off a dominant weekend for the fifth-year senior, who went 3-1 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. He also led 5-4 in an unfinished doubles match against Morgan State on Saturday, just one game away from adding one to the win column there.
Â
NC A&T won the doubles point with wins on two of the three courts. Rebecchini and
Adam Kaczmarek combined for a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position over Esteban Lopez and Vasil Ivanov, but Eder Blanco and Alex Martinez evened things up by defeating Sadiq Hinton and
Ibrahim Abbas 6-0 at No. 2. Ian Pederson and Matthieu Dussabat pulled out a 6-3 win on Court 3 over
Hugo Massoni Lena and
Boris Lunin.
Â
The Aggies took that momentum into singles play, winning matches two through six in straight sets.
Â
Rebecchini got the Spartans on the board with a two-set victory of his own, taking down Lopez 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
Â
After playing four matches in four days, the Spartans will finally have a chance to rest, taking the court next on Friday, Mar. 31 for a home bout with Monmouth.
