FARMVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team couldn't quite close out a thrilling match at Longwood on Tuesday, falling 4-3 at Lancer Tennis Courts.
The Spartans won the opening doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 3.
Aleksandra Evdokimova and
Amal Gati defeated Emma Nurgazieva and Karina Rizvanova 6-4 at the No. 1 position, while
Breana Cook and
Laura Ruiz took down Wiktoria Czerny and Zoe Barton at No. 3 to clinch the point for the Spartans.
Ruiz and Evdokimova earned singles victories for the Spartans, with the former cruising in straight sets. Ruiz beat Rizvanova 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, before Evdokimova outlasted Nurgazieva 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 at the top spot to close out an undefeated day for the Spartan pair.
The Lancers earned straight sets victories in four singles matches to complete the win. Maria Saez bested Gati 6-1, 6-2 on Court 2, while Nina Hederich defeated McMorris 6-0, 6-1 on Court 5 and Barton defeated Grant 6-0, 6-0 on Court 6.
