Bulldogs Defeat Spartans at NSU Tennis Complex

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team fell 7-0 to South Carolina State on Monday afternoon, the Spartans' second match in as many days.

The Bulldogs (10-5, 5-0 MEAC) drew first blood by winning the opening doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 2. Sofya Vitaliyena Chu and Semlali Hind defeated Aleksandra Evdokimova and Amal Gati 6-2 at the No. 1 slot, before Teodora Vujicic and Nalanda Texeria da Silvia defeated Niya Grant and Zada McMorris by the same score.

Laura Ruiz and Breana Cook led 4-3 at the No. 3 position when the Bulldogs clinched the doubles point.

In a battle between two of the top players in the MEAC, Vitaliyena Chu took down Evdokimova at the No. 1 singles position 6-2, 6-3. The loss marked Evdokimova's first during MEAC play.

The Bulldogs won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, with Cook battling to force a third against Hind at the No. 3 slot. The South Carolina State junior heated up at the right time, however, coming away with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 victory.

Norfolk State returns to action at 1 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 7 against North Carolina A&T. The Spartans will be looking for revenge, after the Aggies won the first matchup between the teams this season in Greensboro, N.C.
