Volleyball Regular Season Ends in Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. - The Norfolk State volleyball team fell to Howard on the road in straight sets on Friday in the regular season finale.

The Spartans (13-14, 7-7 MEAC) finished the season seeded fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, as the Bison (21-5, 14-0 MEAC) finished in first place.

The first set started off competitive early on with neither team taking more than a two point lead until the Bison lead, 10-7. The Spartans tried to capitalize on five kills from Gabrielle Gilbert, but it wasn't enough in the 25-19 set one loss.

Set two saw the Spartans take the lead 6-4, after a pair of Howard attacking errors. Gilbert secured three kills in that span as well.

The Bison took the lead after consecutive service aces and a pair of kills to take the 9-6 lead. A service ace by Trinity Mitchel and two attacking errors, put the Spartans down one point, 11-10, in the second set.

A 5-0 run by Howard immediately afterwards was all the Bison needed to secure the set two win. 25-18.

Howard won set three behind eight block assists. The Spartans early on in the set fought hard, but were unable to handle the defensive intensity of the Bison, falling in set three 25-17.
