NORFOLK, Va. – Fresh off a dominant season-opening victory, the Norfolk State men's basketball team will look for a repeat performance on Wednesday evening at Echols Hall.
The Spartans take on Virginia University of Lynchburg at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for Housing & Residence Life Night. Norfolk State cruised past Penn State Wilkes Barre 96-41 on Monday, putting together a complete showing on both ends of the floor.
Making his first appearance in an NSU uniform, graduate transfer
Brian Moore Jr. paced the home team with 18 points on a 7-of-10 shooting night. Six Spartans scored in double figures on Monday: Moore,
Tyrel Bladen (14),
Jaylani Darden (11),
Dramane Camara (11),
Kuluel Mading (10), and
Sin'Cere McMahon (10).
The point distribution came in large part to strong facilitation from point guard
Christian Ings, who dished a career-high 10 assists. It marked the first time a Norfolk State player reached 10 assists in a single game since Devante Carter achieved the feat on Mar. 14, 2019.
Norfolk State leads the all-time series with Virginia Lynchburg, winning both matchups between the schools. The Spartans defeated the Dragons 118-73 during the 2023-24 campaign, behind a historic performance from forward
Chris Fields Jr.
Fields finished that game with 31 points on a 12-of-13 shooting night from the field, setting the Division I freshman single-game scoring record for Norfolk State.
Wednesday's game will air live on WNSB 91.1 FM, featuring Ross Gordon and Woube Gebre on the call.
