Hofstra Snaps Norfolk State’s Home Win Streak

NORFOLK, Va. – The Hofstra Pride snapped Norfolk State's 18-game home winning streak on Monday night, defeating the Spartans 80-67 at Joseph G. Echols Hall.

Jalen Myers led Norfolk State with 17 points and five rebounds, knocking down three 3-pointers. 59 of Hofstra's 80 points came from three players: Cruz Davis (20), KiJan Robinson (20), and Jean Aranguren (19).

Hofstra came out of the gate firing, knocking down two shots from behind the arc in route to an early 8-2 advantage. Myers helped the Spartans catch up, hitting a pair of free throws, a hook shot, and two 3-pointers within a span of minutes to put Norfolk State back in front.

Robinson converted from deep to give Hofstra an 18-16 lead, before Davis drained another moments later. The Pride never trailed for the rest of the night, keeping a comfortable distance from the home team.

Davis reached double-figure scoring with another 3-pointer, pushing Hofstra ahead 27-22. Myers kept the Spartans afloat in the first half, hitting another shot from deep to reach 10 points himself.

Hofstra went to halftime with a 37-31 lead.

Christian Ings attempted to give the Spartans a boost of energy, soaring to the rim for a one-handed dunk early in the second half. Brian Moore Jr. pulled NSU within one possession by scoring through contact for an and-one.

Hofstra responded with two quick-paint scores, followed by a pair of 3-pointers. Myers drained another shot from behind the arc, but Hofstra continued to push the pace as the gap reached double-digits.

As the second half neared its midway point, Hofstra went ahead 64-45 on a successful trip to the free throw line from Davis. Making his return from injury, MEAC All-Rookie Team selection Chris Fields Jr. scored the first basket of his sophomore season on the Spartans' next trip down the floor.

Terrance Jones added a few scores within short succession, as Norfolk State attempted to pull a comeback effort together. Ings earned a trip to the free throw line to bring NSU within 11, but Hofstra continued to drain the clock with under three minutes remaining.
