NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State graduate student and former track & field student-athlete
Joseph Abiakam strolled the red carpet amongst some of today's biggest stars at the 2024 GRAMMYs.
A recipient of the $10,000 Your Future is Now Scholarship sponsored by Black Music Collective and Amazon Music, Abiakam was invited to attend the GRAMMYs earlier this month.

As a member of the Norfolk State track & field team, Abiakam primarily competed in the sprint and hurdle events. He took fifth in the decathlon at the 2022 MEAC Indoor Championships, and set a personal best time of 8.32 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles at the 2020 Darius Dixon Memorial Invite.

Abiakam received his B.M. with an emphasis in Music Media with a concentration in Piano at Norfolk State University and is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance with Dr. Susan Ha.
