NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's and women's track and field teams each earned a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly accolade this weekend, continuing a strong start to the 2023-24 season.

Mercyline Kimaiyo was named MEAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Issac Haywood received MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors. The recognitions came after standout performances at the Penn State National Open at Ashenfelter Track.

Kimaiyo took seventh in the women's 5,000 meter race, completing the event in 17 minutes, 42.59 seconds. The time marked a new indoor school record for Kimaiyo, broking the record she had previously set last year by over five seconds.

Haywood took 10
th in the triple jump at the University Park, Pa. meet, logging a mark of 46 feet, 2.5 inches. He also recorded a long jump of 16-6.5 that same day.
