NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State softball team fell in its series this week against the Syracuse Orange, 9-0, and the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 13-4, on Monday at the NSU Softball Field.
Rylie Gilbreath had one hit in one at-bat against Syracuse (10-9) and then went 3-for-3 against Quinnipiac. In the series, Gilbreath had four hits, one run, and four RBIs.
Gilbreath hit a three-run homerun against Quinnipiac for her second of the season. She has two homers this season and is the only Spartan with a homerun so far.
In game one against Syracuse the Spartans fell after a 5-run second inning from the Orange.
Against Quinnipiac, the Spartans rallied after a seven-run second inning from the Bobcats. The three-run bomb to left field from Gilbreath brought the Spartans within four runs of the Bobcats.
The Spartans would go on to lose 13-4 after only scoring one more run to their six.
Coming up - The Spartans will play the Orange and Bobcats in a series on Tuesday at the NSU Softball Field. The game against Quinnipiac is first at 11 a.m. and the second game will be against Syracuse at 3:30 p.m.
