NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior
Gabriela Davidescu and freshman Irina Iona Iurea both went 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to get the Spartans a team victory.
Â
Longwood defeated Norfolk State 5-2 at NSU Tennis Complex, the Lancers' third consecutive win.
Â
Davidescu and Iurea defeated Phoebe Mitchell and Karina Rizvanova at No. 1 doubles, but Longwood took the opening point with 6-2 and 6-0 wins at Courts 2 and 3, respectively.
Â
The Spartans evened the match after Davidescu took down Feline van Eijkelenburg 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Shortly after, Iurea defeated Mitchell 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot to give Norfolk State a 2-1 advantage.
Â
Longwood bounced back with a group of straight set victories, though. Oriana Izarra defeated Allesia Stan 6-1, 6-2 on Court 2, before
Sabina Maria Iurea lost 6-1, 6-0 to Rizvanova at the No. 5 position. Kashmira Manohar closed the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over
Isabella Cottrell at the No. 6 slot.
