NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State University Department of Athletics concluded its fourth annual C.L.E.A.R. Leadership Academy, focusing on developing key skills and qualities essential for effective leadership.
Standing for Commitment to Leadership, Excellence, Achievement, and Results, the C.L.E.A.R. Leadership Academy gave students the opportunity to engage in four crucial sessions covering branding, career goals, leadership, meal etiquette, and interview etiquette.
The academy began with remarks from renowned speaker Will Baggett, delivering an insightful session on branding at both the personal and professional level.
Norfolk State Director of Academic Ashley Vaughn led a career goals workshop for the second session, sharing expertise on career readiness and emphasizing the importance of leadership both on and off the playing surface. Participants delved into the essence of leadership, honing skills and analyzing the significance of effective leadership in various contexts.
NSU Director of Athletics Melody Webb drove the third session, providing an engaging overview on meal etiquette. The lesson highlighted the importance of proper dining etiquette, and the impact it can have on professional partnerships and networking opportunities.
Students participated in a mock interview session next with NSU alumni, workshopping strategies and techniques for real-world interviews. The segment offered practical guidance on navigating the interview process with confidence.
The program concluded with a culminating pinning ceremony, certificate distribution, and celebratory dinner at Town Point Club. Students participated in a round table discussion with esteemed University Vps, including Dr. Justin Moses, Dr. DoVeanna Fulton, Dr. Clifford Porter, Dr. Leonard Brown, Dr. Jocelyn Dean, and Dr. Gerald Hunter.
