BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Norfolk State baseball team dropped a road bout at Sacred Heart 9-5 on Friday, the first matchup of a road conference series.

Norfolk State got off to a strong start, racking up three runs in the second inning.
Kydese Queen tallied an RBI single to right center, before
Brendan Burke drove in two more baserunners with a timely double.

The Spartans went ahead 4-0 after
Manny Jackson got a hit to fall in the fifth inning. Sacred Heart rallied back in the bottom half of the frame, though, tying the game with four runs on four hits and one error.

A sacrifice fly scored an unearned run for Sacred Heart in the sixth inning, the Pioneers' first lead of the afternoon. The gap expanded in the seventh, as Sacred Heart capitalized on another fielding error to rack up four runs and take a 9-4 lead.

Norfolk State attempted to gain momentum back in the eighth, as
Collin Curry scored on the second wild pitch of a short stretch. The Spartans couldn't muster any runs on the board, however, as Sacred Heart produced a 1-2-3 inning to close out the day.

The Spartans and Pioneers will face off for Game 2 on Saturday, Apr. 27, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
