Kai Cole's exclusion from the 2024 USATF is an unfortunate cloud upon his achievements as a stellar student athlete at Norfolk State University. Campus officials were finally informed that the USATF could not accept Kai's qualifying times because the 2024 MEAC men's outdoor track and field championships were not sanctioned due to the MEAC administrative error. Norfolk State University continued to fight alongside Kai in his quest to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Through both formal and informal channels, including the USATF appellate process, the administration has been relentless in pursuing every avenue to ensure Kai's inclusion in this years' competition.
The University maintains its' support of Kai and his Olympic dreams. It is our belief that fairness and integrity are essential aspects of any decision-making process by the governing body, and that Kai has done all that is required for his participation in the USATF competition. His strong qualifying time and proven athletic achievements are the product of his commitment and hard work.
The Spartan family always stands strong in tough times. The administration, faculty, staff, students and alumni will continue to support Kai Cole, placing our faith in the belief that his dreams are only deferred and not denied.
