DOVER, Del. --- The Norfolk State women's basketball team never trailed during Monday's road contest, taking down Delaware State 94-54 at Memorial Hall.

Diamond Johnson led the Spartans with 28 points, adding eight steals, six assists, and five rebounds. Senior forward
Makoye Diawara (16), sophomore guard
Da'Brya Clark (10), and senior forward
Kierra Wheeler (10) also scored in double figures for the Spartans in the win.
The Spartans got off to a quick 7-0 start, capped off by a Clark layup to force a Hornets timeout. Johnson extended the Spartans' advantage out of the timeout, draining a jumper from just outside the paint. Back-to-back buckets from DSU cut into the NSU lead before Norfolk State went on a 12-4 run to end the first quarter.
Delaware State opened the second quarter gaining momentum with a 6-0 run behind four points from Kiarra Mcelrath. Forward
Stephanie Mosley extended the NSU advantage back to double digits with a turn-around jumper and a free throw. Norfolk State ended the half on a 14-4 run behind five consecutive closing points from
Da'naijah Williams to give NSU a 47-29 advantage.
Norfolk State produced a strong defensive effort in the third quarter, allowing just nine Delaware State points. Mcelrath drained a 3-pointer out of the locker room for the Hornets before NSU graduate guard
Niya Fields answered back with a 3-pointer of her own.
NSU capitalized on three straight DSU turnovers and two sets of free throws from Diawara to extend the lead to 58-32 with 5:57 left in the third quarter. Johnson drained back-to-back 3-pointers at the end of the third quarter, giving NSU a 74-38 advantage heading into the final period.
The Spartans opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a Diawara and-one layup. NSU continued to bring the pressure down the stretch of the game as Mosley and Johnson both got to the hoop for back-to-back layups. Forward
Ciara Bailey scored the final points for the Spartans, giving NSU a 94-54 win.
