CARY, N.C. – Norfolk State's Yuliya Yurkova claimed the women's singles crown at the 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Invitational, defeating South Carolina State's Valeria Teran in a hard-fought championship match.
Yurkova opened the tournament with a commanding straight-set victory (6-3, 6-2) over Morgan State's top player, Lauryn Hall, in the round of 16. She battled through a three-set quarterfinal win (6-7 [3-7], 6-2, 6-1) against North Carolina Central's Valeria San Miguel Soria before outlasting Delaware State's Catherine Goldman in another three-set semifinal thriller (6-7 [7-9], 6-4, 6-3).
In the final, Yurkova sealed the title with a resilient 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Teran, delivering Norfolk State its first women's singles championship at the MEAC Invitational. The win breaks South Carolina State's hold on the title, as the Bulldogs had captured the event in 2024.
