NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State football team battled through a back-and-forth contest on Senior Day but ultimately fell to Morgan State, 35-28, at William "Dick" Price Stadium.
The Spartans showcased a powerful ground attack, led by
Kevon King's 189 yards and
X'Zavion Evans' 107 yards, combining for 296 rushing yards. Quarterback
Vinson Berry delivered a solid performance through the air, completing 17-of-31 passes for 174 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
JJ Evans paced the receiving corps with 98 yards on seven catches, including a touchdown, while Kamryn Thomas added 49 yards and a score on four receptions.
Defensively,
Terique Miles anchored the unit with 11 tackles and a pass breakup, and
Jayden Smith added an interception.
How It Happened
Morgan State struck first on a one-yard touchdown run by Randall Nauden to take the early lead.
Norfolk State responded with 14 straight points, sparked by King's 79-yard touchdown burst, followed by an 18-yard touchdown connection from Berry to Thomas.
The Bears tied the game as the first quarter expired on an eight-yard pass from Raymond Moore III to Joshua Smith.
NSU regained the advantage when Berry found Evans for a 17-yard touchdown, but Morgan State stole momentum going into halftime, returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown as time expired to lead 21-20.
The Spartans kept pushing in the third quarter, taking a 28-21 lead on a 10-yard direct-snap rushing score by
DreSean Kendrick, followed by his two-point conversion catch from Berry.
Morgan State rallied in the fourth, scoring 14 unanswered points on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Justin Perry and a one-yard quarterback keeper, closing out the 35-28 win.
