AMES, Iowa — The Norfolk State women's basketball team continued its stretch against nationally ranked opponents on Sunday, falling to No. 16 Iowa State 98–52 at Hilton Coliseum.
The Spartans dropped to 2–3, while Iowa State remained unbeaten at 5–0.
Jasha Clinton led NSU with 17 points and a career-high nine made free throws.
Anjanae Richardson added 13 points, and
Carmen Kweti pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Norfolk State shot 77.8 percent from the free-throw line (14-of-18) and forced the Cyclones into 12 turnovers.
Cire Worley gave the Spartans an early spark with a 3-pointer that pushed NSU ahead 5–4. Kweti followed with a layup to make it 7–4 before Iowa State responded with a 14–0 run.
Ciara Bailey knocked down a jumper to slow the surge, but the Cyclones closed the first quarter with a 26–11 advantage.
Richardson capped a 4–1 NSU run early in the second quarter, but Iowa State countered with another 14–0 stretch to take control. Clinton halted the burst with a second-chance jumper, and the Cyclones carried a 53–25 lead into halftime.
Clinton opened the third quarter by sinking three straight free throws before Richardson added a fast-break jumper. Norfolk State continued to attack the paint, but Iowa State maintained its rhythm and entered the fourth quarter ahead 77–41.
The Cyclones opened the final period on a 6–0 run.
Da'Brya Clark hit two free throws to stop it, and the Spartans put together a brief 7–3 spurt. Iowa State answered with an 8–0 run before Clinton added two final free throws. The Cyclones closed out the 98–52 victory.
