BOONE, N.C. --- The Norfolk State women's basketball team dropped a 66–38 contest to App State on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans fell to 2–6, while the Mountaineers improved to 5–2.

Da'Brya Clark led NSU with 14 points, adding three assists and two steals.
Cire Worley pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while
Jasha Clinton and
Ciara Bailey each grabbed four.

Norfolk State took an early 4–3 lead in the first quarter on baskets by
Anjanae Richardson and
LeAire Nicks, but App State responded with a 9–0 run over the next seven minutes. Clinton knocked down a 3-pointer in the final seconds to trim the deficit to seven heading into the second quarter.

Clark opened the second quarter with a corner 3-pointer, but App State answered with two triples to push the lead to 20–12. Worley sliced the margin to five before the Mountaineers countered with an 11–0 run for a 31–15 advantage. Richardson halted the surge with an and-one layup, but App State added a free throw and took a 32–19 lead into halftime.

App State extended its lead with a 13–4 run to start the second half. Richardson hit a free throw to stop the spurt, but the Mountaineers stretched the margin to their largest of the day so far at 50–24. NSU finished the quarter on a 6–3 run, capped by a Clinton 3-pointer, to enter the fourth trailing 53–30.

Clark opened the fourth quarter with two free throws, but App State answered with a 10–2 run. Clark added two more free throws and a late layup with 1:24 remaining, but the Mountaineers closed out the 66–38 win.
