NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State University men's basketball team tipped off the 2025-26 campaign in impressive fashion, cruising to a 98-76 victory over Washington Adventist on Monday night inside Echols Hall.

Ellis and Jenkins paced the Spartans on the boards with six rebounds each, while Jamison,
Adrean Newton, and
Dian Wright-Forde dished out four assists apiece to round out a balanced team effort.
How It Happened
Lewis got the Spartans rolling early, knocking down a pair of free throws to open the scoring. After a brief tie, NSU used an 8-0 spurt to take a 10-2 lead by the 16-minute mark. The Spartans stretched the margin to 10 before Washington Adventist responded with an 8-2 run to close within four.
A three-pointer from Leaks halted the rally and ignited another NSU surge, an 8-0 run that rebuilt the lead to double digits. The Shock trimmed the deficit to five with just over three minutes left in the half, but the Spartans finished strong, outscoring WAU 11-4 to take a 45-33 lead into the locker room.
Norfolk State came out firing after the break, opening the second half on a 13-6 run to push the advantage to 58-39. From there, the Spartans never looked back, maintaining a comfortable cushion and closing out the 22-point victory in front of the home crowd.
