Vick Announced as 2026 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

NORFOLK, Va. – Just days after being enshrined in the National Football Foundation (NFF) College Football Hall of Fame, Norfolk State head football coach Michael Vick has earned another prestigious honor, selection to the 2026 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Class.

Vick, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, rose to national prominence during his standout collegiate career at Virginia Tech from 1999–2001, a tenure that led to his jersey retirement and later an accomplished NFL career.

During his two seasons as the Hokies' starting quarterback, Virginia Tech posted a remarkable 22-2 record, capturing a Big East title and reaching the BCS National Championship Game in his redshirt freshman campaign.

That season, Vick delivered one of the greatest freshman performances in college football history, finishing third in Heisman Trophy voting, still the highest finish ever by a Virginia Tech player. He threw for 1,840 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning All-America recognition from The Sporting News and Football News while leading the Hokies to an undefeated regular season.

Vick also continues to hold multiple Virginia Tech program records, including:
  • Highest yards-per-completion average in a season: 20.4 (1999)
  • Highest yards-per-attempt average in a season: 12.0 (1999)
  • Highest career yards-per-attempt average: 9.79 (1999–2000)

Vick joins an accomplished 2026 induction class that includes Tony Bennett, Terry Driscoll, Grant Hill, Roland Lazenby, Kristi Tolliver, Wally Walker, and Boo Williams. Vick is now a member of five hall of fames;
the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame, the National High School Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame, the Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

The 2026 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Richmond Short Pump. Fans may purchase tickets here.

Established in 1972, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, media members, and contributors who have brought significant recognition to the Commonwealth through sport.
