Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spartans Hit the Century Mark in Dominant Win Over Dillard

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's basketball team returned to the win column in emphatic fashion on Thursday afternoon, rolling to a 100-54 victory over Dillard University at Echols Hall. The Spartans improve to 5-7 on the season, while the Bleu Devils drop to 5-8.

Da'Brya Clark delivered a career performance, pouring in 34 points on 62.5 percent shooting (15-of-24) to go along with seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Her dominant outing fueled an NSU offense that saw all eight active players reach the scoring column.

The Spartans wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to a 12-0 lead before Dillard scored its first basket at the 8:16 mark. NSU maintained its momentum throughout the opening frame, closing on a 16-11 run highlighted by a Cire Worley three-pointer, multiple drives from Clark, and contributions from Jasha Clinton, Anjanae Richardson, and Ciara Bailey to take a 28-11 lead after one.

Dillard briefly narrowed the margin to 30-15 early in the second quarter, but Clark and the Spartans quickly responded. NSU strung together an 11-0 run, nine coming from Clark, to stretch the lead to 41-15 with 4:23 remaining. The teams traded baskets down the stretch, but Norfolk State carried a commanding 57-26 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter brought more of the same, as a quick Dillard basket was answered by a 10-2 NSU surge to push the lead to 68-30. Norfolk State continued to pour it on, extending the margin to as many as 44 points in the period on the strength of its transition game and paint presence.

NSU closed strong, outscoring the Bleu Devils 22-18 in the fourth quarter and building the lead to as many as 54 points before sealing the decisive 100-54 victory.
