ELON, N.C. – The Norfolk State women's basketball team closed out its 2025 non-conference schedule with a 58-41 setback to the Elon Phoenix on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21. Norfolk State moves to 5-10 on the season, while Elon improves to 4-7.
Da'Brya Clark led the Spartans with 14 points, while Jasha Clinton added six points in the contest.
Elon opened the game on a 12-0 run before Norfolk State got on the scoreboard at the 5:36 mark of the first quarter on a layup from Carmen Kweti. Kweti's basket ignited an 18-6 Spartan run that spanned two quarters, knotting the score at 18 midway through the second quarter.
The Phoenix briefly regained momentum with a 7-0 surge to take a 25-18 lead, but Norfolk State responded with an 11-3 run to close the half, taking a 29-28 advantage into halftime.
Elon reclaimed control coming out of the break, opening the third quarter on an 8-0 run. Norfolk State answered with six straight points to pull within two, 35-33, with 2:30 remaining in the period. However, Elon knocked down two three-pointers in the final two minutes to take a 43-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Phoenix opened the final stanza with a decisive 12-0 run, extending their lead to 55-35. Clark halted the run with a layup and later added a free throw and a three-pointer in the closing moments, but Elon held on for the 58-41 victory.
