Second-Half Surge Comes Up Short for Spartans at Louisiana

Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – The Norfolk State men's basketball team closed out the 2025 calendar year with a 63–54 road loss to the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana on Sunday afternoon at the Cajundome. 

Norfolk State falls to 6–10 on the season, while Louisiana improves to 3–11. 

Jordan Leaks paced the Spartans with 16 points, shooting 4-of-13 from the field and 4-of-9 from three-point range. He added eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Anthony McComb III finished with 11 points, connecting on three three-pointers while contributing three rebounds and one steal. 

Louisiana jumped out to a 7–2 lead to open the contest before Leaks answered with a pair of three-pointers and a free throw to trim the deficit to one, 10–9. The Ragin' Cajuns responded with an 8–2 run to extend their advantage to 18–11 at the under-12 media timeout. 

A three-pointer from McComb snapped a four-minute scoring drought for the Spartans, cutting the margin to five, 20–15. My'kel Jenkins followed with a three to pull Norfolk State within two, 20–18. Louisiana closed the half on a 13–7 run to take a 33–25 lead into the break. Norfolk State's points during the stretch came from four free throws—two each from Jenkins and Elijah Jamison—and a three from Leaks. 

The Ragin' Cajuns opened the second half on a 17–4 run, building a 50–29 advantage through the first seven minutes. Norfolk State responded with a 15–3 rally over the next seven minutes to cut the deficit to nine, 53–44. The run featured back-to-back layups from Jenkins and Keyontae Lewis, Leaks' fourth three-pointer of the game, three free throws from Leaks, a three from McComb, and two free throws by Jenkins. 

Louisiana pushed the lead back to 15, 59–44, before the Spartans again fought back, trimming the margin to 10, 61–51, with 2:23 remaining. Dian Wright-Forde knocked down a three-pointer with 17 seconds left to cap the scoring, as Norfolk State fell 63–54.
