Defense Fuels Norfolk State Past NC A&T in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Norfolk State women's basketball team earned its first Division I victory of the 2025–26 season with a 63–50 nonconference win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro. 

The Spartans improved to 4–6 on the year, while the Aggies slipped to 3–5. 

Junior guard Da'Brya Clark delivered a dominant all-around performance, posting a game-high 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals. Jasha Clinton followed with 17 points and four steals, and Anjanae Richardson added 12 points and eight rebounds in the win. 

Norfolk State shot 37.1 percent from the field (26-of-70) and 25.0 percent from three-point range (7-of-28), while forcing 32 turnovers and converting them into 23 points. The Spartans recorded 20 first-half turnovers, including 11 steals, to seize early control. 

The Spartans struck first and pulled ahead 9–5 at the opening media timeout following a Clark three-pointer. Norfolk State then closed the first quarter on a 15–1 run, led by 11 points from Clark, to take a commanding 24–8 advantage. 

North Carolina A&T responded in the second quarter, outscoring NSU 16–12, but the Spartans maintained a 36–24 lead at halftime. Clark led all scorers with 14 first-half points, while Richardson chipped in 10. 

The Aggies carried momentum into the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 41–34 with 5:32 remaining. Genesis Hill snapped a three-plus-minute scoring drought with a free throw, and both teams traded runs as Norfolk State held a 48–40 edge entering the final period. 

Norfolk State opened the fourth quarter with seven straight points, stretching the lead to 55–40 following a Cire Worley three-pointer and consecutive layups from Clinton. After A&T closed to 58–45, Clark sealed the victory by scoring the Spartans' final five points on two layups and an and-one to secure the 63–50 win.
