Box Score STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team picked up the first win of its 2025 campaign on Saturday, taking down Wagner at the CSI Tennis Courts.
 
  
Doubles made the difference for the Spartans (1-1), winning two of the three matchups to secure the opening point over the Seahawks (2-4). 
Caroline Nicholls and 
Ines Sabadie cruised to a 6-2 triumph on Court 3, before 
Sofiya Tsitavets and 
Yuliya Yurkova won on Court 1 by the same score to clinch a 1-0 lead for NSU.
 
Tsitavets improved to 2-0 in singles play this season with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory over Wagner freshman Claudia Lindsey at the No. 2 position. Victoria Madail got the Seahawks on the board with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Nicholls at the top spot in the lineup.
Daniela Hernandez evened the match 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over 
Angelina Maniawska at the No. 3 slot, but Yurkova responded by beating Paula Ysabelle Uy on Court 4.
Irina Iurea earned her first win of the season with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 result over Dariana Vera, clinching the victory for her squad. Sara Gonzelez nearly picked up her first collegiate triumph in the match's final moments, but dropped a back-and-forth match with Samantha Bentsianov by a final score of 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.
The Spartans get just one rest day before closing their road trip against Loyola University of Maryland on Monday, Feb. 24.
