NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team got right back on track after Monday's loss, defeating Shaw 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at NSU Tennis Complex.
Playing their home opener, the Spartans (2-2) won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point.
Caroline Nicholls and
Ines Sabadie soared to a 6-0 win on Court 3, before Serena Teluwo and Prerana Koirala took down Angelina Maniewska and
Irina Iurea 6-2 on Court 2.
Sofiya Tsitavets and
Yuliya Yurkova took care of business at the top spot in the lineup, beating Anja Antonijevic and Marija Ristanovic 6-3.
Yurkova took down Teluwo 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles position, before Nicholls bested Antonijevic 6-2, 6-4 on Court 2. Tsitavets lost the first set against Koirala at the No. 1 spot, but recovered to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Sabina Iurea defeated Marija Ristanovic 6-2, 6-1 on Court 4, before her sister
Irina Iurea took down Camilla Angiani-Mortino 6-2, 6-3 on Court 5.
Sara Gonzalez closed the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hafsa Sanhaji at the No. 6 position.
Norfolk State returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 1, facing Chowan and Maryland in a doubleheader.
