Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team notched its second consecutive sweep on Friday afternoon, defeating Shippensburg 7-0 at NSU Tennis Complex.
The Spartans (3-2) dominated from start to finish, winning every match in straight sets. No person in Norfolk State's lineup conceded more than one game across their respective sets.
NSU swept the opening doubles point, earning victories on Courts 1, 2, and 3.
Sofiya Tsitavets and
Sara Gonzalez won 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, while
Sabina Iurea and
Irina Iurea won 6-0 at the No. 2 position and
Angelina Maniawska and
Ines Sabadie logged the same result at the No. 3 position.
Fresh off receiving MEAC Player of the Week and Rookie of the recognitions, Tsitavets cruised past Corrine Markovich 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot in the singles lineup.
Irina Iurea and
Sabina Iurea both earned 6-0, 6-0 victories on Courts 2 and 3, respectively.
Maniawska earned a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Rachel Gallagher at position four, as Gonzalez defeated Brooklynn Rupert 6-0, 6-1 at position five. Sabadie closed out the emphatic victory for the Spartans, defeating Brinley Orris 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 slot.
Norfolk State returns on Saturday for a doubleheader, facing Chowan at 9 a.m. at NSU Tennis Complex before a 4 p.m. battle with Maryland at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
