NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State racked up four home runs on Friday afternoon but couldn't pull out a win in an 11-7 result against Stonehill.
Starting pitcher
Parker Hampton opened the game with a 1-2-3 inning, getting through the second unscathed.
The Spartans struck first, scoring two runs in the second inning on a pair of RBI singles. Stonehill responded with two runs in the top of the third, capitalizing off an error to tie the game 2-2.
Justin Journette homered to right field to put NSU back in front, his sixth home run of the season. Stonehill piled on four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, though, taking a 9-3 lead.
Jalan Jones launched a solo home run in the fifth inning, starting a Spartan rally.
Kydese Queen and
Jamal Ritter added solo shots in the sixth and seventh inning, pulling Norfolk State within two.
Stonehill held on in the final stretch thanks to two scoreless frames from Gio Arzuaga, striking out five batters to earn the save.
