Ings Selected to Compete in College Slam Dunk Championships

| By:
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Norfolk State guard Christian Ings has been selected to the King's Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship roster for the 36th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Thursday, April 3.

Ings is one of six players that will participate in the slam dunk competition, airing live on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.

Becoming widely known in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for his unmatched athleticism, Ings has wowed Norfolk State fans the past four years with his high-flying style of play. He notoriously produced the No. 1 and No. 3 plays on ESPN's SportsCenter on Feb. 24, thanks to a pair of tremendous dunks within the final two minutes of the Spartans' Senior Night victory over Morgan State.
An All-MEAC Third Team selection, Ings averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game this season while shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 47.3 percent from behind the arc. He led the Spartans to their fourth-ever MEAC Tournament title, scoring a team-best 16 points in championship game.

The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships invites 24 of the nation's elite men's and women's college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights. The night features the King's Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship, the E*TRADE Men's 3-Point Championship, the Hanes Women's 3-Point Shooting Championship and the Dave's Hot Chicken Hot Shot Challenge. The winners of the Hanes Men's and Women's 3-Point Championships will then compete in the Skechers Battle of the Champions.

It will be the fifth time San Antonio has played host to the event, and the first time the annual competition will take place at Frost Bank Center, the home of the San Antonio Spurs. The event was last held in an NBA venue in 2019 when more than 8,000 fans flocked to Target Center in Minneapolis to witness the excitement of this annual showcase.

Participants in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships have included some of basketball's greats and legendary lottery picks, including Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Cappie Pondexter and Odyssey Sims, to unforgettable tournament superstars from recent history like Kris Jenkins, Jack Gohlke, Dyaisha Fair and Ariel Atkins.

Tickets for the event start at just $20 and can be purchased by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Discounted rates are available for groups of 10 or more, which can be secured by calling Spurs Group Sales at 210-444-5959 or by filling out a Group Sales form at www.collegeslam.com/group-tickets.
