Shorts' Walk-Off Single Caps Series Sweep Over Coppin State

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State softball team capped off its series against Coppin State in a 6-5 walk off win behind a single by Emory Shorts in Norfolk to sweep the Eagles.

The Spartans put together a three-run, four-hit bottom of the seventh to defeat the Eagles, who led for most of the game.

Kira Turner's leadoff double sent the Norfolk State dugout into a frenzy to begin the seventh. Turner eventually advanced to third on a wild pitch. Lauren Sheehan hit an RBI single in her at-bat to bring in Turner, giving the Eagles only a one-run lead over the Spartans, 5-4.

Sheehan would advance to second on a steal, before Ennovi Sandoval would reach on a walk to put two runners on for the Spartans with only one out. Kailey Bryant's seventh double of the season brought in the game-tying run in Sheehan home, to make the score 5-5.

Shorts then came in and took the first pitch for a hard hit single to the second baseman, to score Aniyah Michalak, who came in to pinch run for Sandoval. The Spartans would defeat the Eagles 6-5 behind teh heroics of Shorts in the seventh.
