GREENVILLE, N.C. - In the second ever meeting between the programs, Norfolk State fell to East Carolina University, 6-2, in a midweek matchup in Greenville, N.C.
The Spartans (13-15, 6-3 MEAC) last played against the Pirates (20-16, 6-6 AAC) on Mar. 11, 2023 in North Carolina, losing 7-5.
Norfolk State held East Carolina scoreless through two innings to begin the game. The bottom of the first saw Qween Olivia Edmonds turn a play from the ground, knocking the ball to second baseman Emory Shorts for the out.
ECU put up six runs through the third and fourth innings on seven hits, to give it a 6-0 lead.
The Spartans ate away at the Pirates lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Two extra base hits on a double by Edmonds and a triple by Shorts gave Norfolk State its first run of the game, 6-1.
Maya Johnson hit an RBI groundout to the shortstop to score Shorts, give ECU only a 6-2 lead over the Spartans.
Norfolk State held the Pirates to only two hits through the fifth and sixth innings, but the Spartans' comback fell short.
The Spartans host Maryland Eastern Shore in a weekend series for Military Appreciation. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m.
