Box Score CARY, N.C. – The No. 4 seed Norfolk State women's tennis team's postseason run came to an end on Friday morning, falling 4-0 to No. 1 seed South Carolina State in the MEAC Tournament Semifinals.
The loss concluded a terrific year for the Spartans (12-12, 3-3 MEAC), putting together a tremendous one-season turnaround after going 2-17 in 2024.
Norfolk State fought valiantly in play, but the Bulldogs (14-4, 6-0 MEAC) pulled off wins in two of the three matches to take a 1-0 lead.
Yuliya Yurkova and
Caroline Nicholls won 6-4 on Court 3 after the Spartans lost on Court 1, but SCSU squeaked out a 7-5 triumph at the No. 2 position.
Nalanda Teixeira Da Silva earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over
Ines Sabadie at the No. 3 singles slot to push South Carolina State ahead 2-0. MEAC Player of the Year Sofiya Chursina took down
Sofiya Tsitavets 6-4, 6-2 at the top position shortly after.
Hind Semlali closed out the match for South Carolina State at the No. 2 position, defeating Yurkova 6-1, 7-6 (5).
South Carolina State advanced to the MEAC Tennis Championship final with the win, slated for a 9 a.m. start on Saturday, Apr. 26.
