NORFOLK, Va. – After racking up talent in the backcourt, Norfolk State head coach
Robert Jones has landed his first frontcourt addition of the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Jones signed former Saint Peter's product Jaquel Morris on Monday, a 6-8 forward from Brooklyn, N.Y. Morris boasts immense potential with his size and strength, displaying a terrific touch around the rim.
Morris averaged 3.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per contest in 18 games for the Peacocks last season, making seven starts. An efficient player from multiple areas, he shot 63.2 percent (24-of-38) from the field and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line.
Scoring a season-high 10 points against St. Elizabeth, Morris went a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor in just 19 minutes of action. He put his defensive abilities in the spotlight against Merrimack, racking up a career-high 13 rebounds as well as three blocks.
Prior to Saint Peter's, Morris spent two years at Miami (Ohio). He averaged 5.3 points per game on a 64.0 percent shooting clip (73-of-114) as a sophomore, including an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double in Big Ten territory at Ohio State.
Morris attended Eagle Academy II in Brooklyn, N.Y, averaging 11.5 points and 15.6 rebounds per game to earn first team all-state honors. Dominating Jones' hometown, three of the Spartans' four signees of this recruiting cycle come from the New York metropolitan area.
Norfolk State comes off another historic season, winning the 2024-25 MEAC Tournament and Regular Season Championships. The Spartans made their fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, with three coming during Jones' time at the helm.
