JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three members of the Norfolk state track and field team opened their postseason on Wednesday night, competing in three events at the NCAA East Regional.
After a night of weather delays,
Vincent Bond Jr. kicked off the action for the Spartans in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 49.36.
Tafari Bishop posted the third-fastest time in his 400-meter hurdle heat, coming from behind on the last leg of the race to clock in at 51.14 and advance to Friday's quarterfinals.
Kendrick Winfield wrapped up the evening by qualifying for the 200-meter quarterfinals with a time of 20.97.
The NCAA East Regional continues on Friday, May 30, with
Kristopher Stephens and
Jayden Gordon competing in the triple jump at 2:30 p.m. NSU track members will compete in the evening with Bishop starting the night off in the 400-meter hurdle quarterfinals at 7:25 p.m., before Winfield will take part in the quarterfinals of the 200 meters at 7:50 p.m. The NSU 4x400 meter relay team will cap the evening off at 8:45 p.m.
