PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Norfolk State football team fell 60-10 to Rutgers in its first road contest of the season Saturday at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights improved to 3-0 with the win, while the Spartans dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
Kevon King paced the Spartans' offense with seven carries for 59 yards and a touchdown.
X'Zavion Evans added eight carries for 54 yards. Quarterback
Otto Kuhns completed 8 of 20 passes for 90 yards, while
DreSean Kendrick hauled in three receptions for 48 yards.
Antwan Davis led the defense with nine tackles, including five solo stops.
Kendric Nowling followed with eight tackles, and
Ty Jones and
Amir Mateo each recorded six. The Spartans notched three sacks, as
David Ojiegbe,
Rontravious Perry and
Dawson Rivers all brought down the Rutgers quarterback.
Rutgers struck first by blocking Norfolk State's opening punt. The Spartans quickly responded by blocking the Scarlet Knights' point-after attempt, keeping the score 6-0. Rutgers added another blocked punt late in the first quarter to lead 13-0.

Rutgers extended its lead early in the second half with a 37-yard touchdown pass. Norfolk State answered quickly, as King broke loose for a 25-yard rushing touchdown, trimming the deficit to 32-10. Rutgers responded with two rushing scores to take a 45-10 lead into the final quarter.
The Scarlet Knights added two more touchdowns in the final frame to secure the 60-10 victory over the Spartans.
