ORANGEBURG, S.C. --- Norfolk State junior guard
Da'Brya Clark powered the Spartans to an 85-41 road win over South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon.
Norfolk State improved to 8-11 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, while South Carolina State fell to 5-15 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Clark set the program's single-game 3-point record, knocking down nine shots from beyond the arc. She recorded her second career double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds, while adding five assists, four steals and two blocks.
Jasha Clinton also posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Anjanae Richardson scored 13 points, and
LeAire Nicks added 10.
South Carolina State opened the game with a 6-2 lead before Norfolk State answered with an 8-4 run to even the score. The Spartans followed the media timeout with a 10-0 run, highlighted by eight points from Clark. A pair of
Carmen Kweti free throws capped the first quarter, sending Norfolk State into the second with a 28-11 advantage.
Richardson opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer as the Spartans pushed the lead to 24 points during a 6-0 run. The Bulldogs responded with six straight points to cut the margin to 37-17, but Norfolk State closed the half on a 9-4 spurt to take a 46-24 lead into the break.
Norfolk State opened the second half with a 6-2 run, capped by a second-chance basket from Clinton. The Spartans controlled the remainder of the third quarter with a 13-4 surge and carried a 65-32 lead into the final period.
Clark took over in the fourth quarter, burying five 3-pointers to set the single-game record. Norfolk State closed the game on a 13-3 run to seal the 85-41 victory.
