NEW YORK, N.Y. ---The Norfolk State women's track and field team tied for third place at the HBCU Showcase on Saturday.
Howard captured the team title with 176 points, followed by Hampton with 126. Prairie View A&M and Norfolk State each scored 49 points to share third place, while Morgan State finished fifth with 36.
Brooklyn Robinson delivered the Spartans' lone first-place finish on the track, winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.31 seconds. She added a third-place finish in the 60-meter college division (7.54) and placed sixth in the 200 meters (25.06).
Abigael Chebet placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:45.53, while
Natashe Tate earned second place in the unseeded 60 meters, clocking 7.92.
Moamiky Kenneh finished sixth in the 800 meters (2:19.06) and placed 10th in the mile (5:26.66).
Sonia Koech took sixth in the mile with a time of 5:21.02, and
Amira Dailey rounded out the event for NSU with an 11th-place finish (5:30.32).
In the field events, freshman
Emma Svetiev won the pole vault by clearing 3.20 meters.
Lexa Hunter followed with a third-place mark of 2.90 meters.
Essence Shaw placed fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.58 meters, while
Yowome Ayim finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.47 meters.
Norfolk State will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Penn State National Open
