NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 69-58 victory over Coppin State on Saturday afternoon at Echols Hall.
Norfolk State improved to 10-11 overall and 5-1 in MEAC play, while Coppin State fell to 4-18 and 2-4 in the conference.
Da'Brya Clark led the Spartans with 30 points, including eight 3-pointers. She added five rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal.
Anjanae Richardson also reached double figures with 10 points.
Coppin State controlled the early portion of the first quarter, jumping out to a 7-0 lead through the first five minutes.
Jasha Clinton ended the Spartans' scoring drought with a layup at the 3:26 mark. Richardson gave Norfolk State its first lead with a pull-up jumper from the free-throw line, and Clark closed the quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers to give NSU a 14-10 advantage.
Clark continued the surge early in the second quarter, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to push the lead to 11. She buried her fifth 3-pointer with 6:38 remaining before
Niyah Gaston added a triple to make it 30-15. Coppin State closed the half on a 6-2 run to trim the deficit to 34-21 at halftime.
Norfolk State opened the second half with a 9-2 run, capped by a Clinton layup, to build a 20-point lead with 6:01 left in the third quarter.
Cire Worley and Clark connected on consecutive 3-pointers to extend the margin to 49-24. Coppin State answered with a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 20 entering the fourth quarter.
The Spartans began the final period with a 6-2 run, highlighted by two Clark free throws with 6:39 remaining. Coppin State responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to pull within 15. Clark stopped the rally with her eighth 3-pointer, and Norfolk State closed out the 69-58 win.
