HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1 (NSU 25-17): Norfolk State established its offensive rhythm early, breaking a 4-4 tie with six of the next seven points to build a 10-5 advantage. Moore sparked the run from the service line, while Gilbert contributed consecutive kills and Moore added an ace. The Spartans maintained control behind Gilbert's attacking efficiency, extending their lead to 17-11 and later 21-14. A Mataira kill pushed the advantage to 22-15 before a Moore-assisted block by Ava Berry and Briana Ellis brought Norfolk State within two points of the set. Ellis closed the frame with a service ace as the Spartans hit an impressive .560 with 16 kills and just two errors on 25 attempts.

Set 2 (NSU 25-20): Norfolk State carried its momentum into the second set, using a four-point service run from Ellis to turn a 2-2 tie into a 6-2 advantage. The stretch included an Ellis service ace and consecutive blocks involving Berry, Mataira and Moore. The Spartans extended their lead to 12-7 before Maryland Eastern Shore responded with four consecutive points to cut the deficit to 12-11. Norfolk State answered with kills from Mataira and Ellis, eventually stretching its lead to 18-14. After the Hawks pulled within 19-18, Gilbert delivered a kill to restore a two-point cushion. Moore followed with a kill, a block alongside Reagan Chisholm and another kill from Chisholm to push the advantage to 23-18. Moore supplied the final two Norfolk State points with consecutive kills to secure the 25-20 victory.

Set 3 (NSU 25-23): Maryland Eastern Shore opened the third set with renewed energy, building an early 7-4 advantage and extending its lead to 14-11 behind consecutive service aces from Lila Bryant. The Hawks maintained a 17-14 advantage before Norfolk State began its comeback. The Spartans took their first lead of the stretch at 18-17 following a Hawks attack error, then extended the margin to 19-17 on another Gilbert kill. Maryland Eastern Shore responded to tie the set at 19, but Norfolk State regained control with a Chisholm kill and consecutive Hawks errors to move ahead 22-19. The Hawks rallied again to tie the score at 22, setting up a tense finish. A Maryland Eastern Shore service error and a Moore kill gave the Spartans match point at 24-22. After the Hawks pulled within one, Gilbert delivered the final kill to seal the 25-23 victory and complete the sweep.
