NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State's Gabrielle Gilbert has been named the MEAC Volleyball Player of the Week after averaging 4.91 kills and 5.73 points per set across three matches, leading the Spartans to a pair of conference wins.
Gilbert, a senior opposite hitter from Indianapolis, Ind., finished the week with 54 kills on 121 attempts and 13 errors, a .339 hitting percentage. She reached at least 16 kills in all three matches and added 33 digs, six service aces and four total blocks for 63.0 points over 11 sets.
She opened the week at Hampton on Sept. 30 with 16 kills on 42 swings, hitting .310, to go with 13 digs and two aces in a 3-1 win.
Her best match came two days later against Maryland Eastern Shore. Gilbert put down 21 kills on 40 attempts with just five errors, a .400 clip, and added 12 digs, four aces and three blocks for 27.0 points in another 3-1 victory.
She closed the week with 17 kills and a .308 percentage at Delaware State on Oct. 4, adding eight digs in a 3-0 loss. Her 5.67 kills per set were her highest of the three matches.
