Spartans Set for Road Contest at UMES Thursday; Hosts Delaware State Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's basketball team is set for a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) games this weekend, including at UMES on Thursday, Feb. 12 and at home against Delaware State on Saturday, Feb. 14.
 
 KEY STORYLINES
  • Head Coach Jermaine Woods is in his first season as Norfolk State's head coach. He won his 50th career game against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7, 2026
  • Norfolk State and Maryland Eastern Shore meet for the 52nd time in program history
  • Maryland Eastern Shore snapped a nine game losing skid against Norfolk State on Jan. 8, 2026 at Echols Hall (63-60)
  • Norfolk State's last win in the series came in the 2024-25 season when the Spartans defeated the Hawks 70-48
  • Norfolk State ranks 12th in the nation in steals per game with 12.5 per contest while also ranking 19th in blocks per game (5.1), 27th in turnovers forced per game at 20.87, and 10th in field goal percentage defense (35.1)
  • Jasha Clinton currently ranks 10th in the nation in total steals with 79. Clinton also ranks ninth in steals per game with 3.43 per contest
  • Clark ranks 38th in 3-pt attempts (169), 58th in steals (58), 45th in steals per game (2.64)
  • Carmen Kweti currently ranks 59th in blocks per game this season, averaging 1.53 per contest.

  • Thursday's game marks the 52nd time the two programs have met
  • Norfolk State leads the all-time series 33-18
  • The series dates back to 1981-82, when Norfolk State defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 96-55
  • The Spartans have not lost at Maryland Eastern Shore since the 2012-13 season
  • The Hawks defeated the Spartans earlier this season 63-60 at Echols hall, snapping a nine game losing streak against the Spartans

  • Maryland Eastern Shore enters the weekend 14-11 overall with a 7-1 record in the MEAC
  • UMES went 2-1 last week, beginning with a loss to N.C. Central (62-6), before picking up wins against S.C. State (73-55), and Morgan State (66-53).
  • Senior Guard Ashanti Lynch leads the Hawks with 12.6 points per game, adding 5.6 rebounds per contest
  • Senior forward Brianna Barnes also averages double-figures with 10.8 points per game
  • The Hawks average 63.8 points per game, while allowing 65.4 per contest
  • UMES shoots 38.2 percent from the floor, 28.0 percent from behind the arc, and 70.3 percent at the free throw line
  • Head Coach Malikah Willis is in her second season as head coach at Maryland Eastern Shore

  • Saturday's game marks the 58th time the two programs have met

  • The series dates back to 1980-81 when the Spartans defeated the Hornets 56-41 in Norfolk, Va.
  • The last time Delaware State defeated Norfolk State was in the 2018-19 season (59-56)

  • Delaware State enters the weekend with a 4-19 record, along with a 1-7 record in MEAC play
  • DSU fell to Coppin State (59-83) and North Carolina Central (44-58) last week
  • Junior guard Mahogany Cottingham leads the Hornets with 10.9 points per game, along with 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest
  • Junior guard Jermesha Frierson ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.0 points per game
  • The Hornets average 54.1 points per game, while allowing 65.7 points per contest
  • DSU shoots 37.0 percent from the field, 28.5 percent from 3-point range, and 62.4 percent at the charity stripe
  • Head Coach Jaz Turner is in her third season as head coach at Delaware State

  • Norfolk State defeated North Carolina Central 58-45
  • Da'Brya Clark led the Spartans with 23 points, adding 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks
  • Anjanae Richardson also scored in double figures with 10 points
  • Saturday's game featured five ties and four lead changes
  • NSU went 20-of-30 from the free throw line (66.7 percent)
  • The Spartans outrebounded the Eagles 47-to-36

  • Jasha Clinton ranks third in the MEAC in points with 13.3 ppg, while Da'Brya Clark ranks second with 15.6 ppg
  • Anjanae Richardson sits 10th in assists (2.3), 11th in scoring (10.4 ppg) and 18th in rebounds per game (4.5 rpg)
  • Carmen Kweti ranks second in block shots per game (1.5) and 14th in rebounds per game (5.3)
  • Ciara Bailey leads the MEAC in blocked shots per game (1.5)
  • Clinton also sits in fourth in the MEAC in field goal percentage (.430), while leading the conference in total steals (79), steals per game (3.4), and ranks second in assists (3.7 apg)
  • Clark ranks first in 3-PT FG pg (2.5), 2nd in steals (2.6 pg), 4th in blocked shots (1.1 pg), 5th in free throw % (.768) and 8th in assists (2.4 pg)
