NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State used a dominant late first-half run and controlled the second half to pull away from Delaware State, earning a 75-58 victory at Echols Hall.
The Spartans were led by
Anthony McComb III with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Devon Ellis (17),
Elijah Jamison (12), and
Keyontae Lewis (10) joined McComb in double-digit scoring.
The opening ten minutes featured seven ties and several lead changes before the Spartans found their rhythm.
Anthony McComb III opened the scoring with a three, while
Devon Ellis and
Elijah Jamison added interior baskets to keep NSU even at 16-16.
Norfolk State's defense then flipped the game, steals and transition chances fueled a surge highlighted by fastbreak dunks, a
Keyontae Lewis and-one, and an
Adrean Newton three pointer. The Spartans used a 17-2 closing run to build a 15-point lead before settling for a 39-26 halftime advantage.
Norfolk State carried that momentum into the second half, quickly stretching the margin to 20 behind consecutive Ellis scores and a
Jordan Leaks three. The Spartans repeatedly turned turnovers into transition points while Jamison and McComb controlled the paint and glass.
Delaware State answered with a 10-0 run midway through the half to cut the deficit to 61-51 with 6:44 remaining, but Norfolk State responded immediately.
Lewis added second-chance points, Jamison scored inside late, and Leaks sealed the game at the free throw line as the Spartans closed on a 14-7 run to secure the win.
